Overview

This Release Bulletin announces the release of the following products: 

• Noxturnal App – 1.4.0 
• Noxturnal App US – 1.4.0 

The focus of this release includes adding Nox SAS support in the Noxturnal App, adding recording configuration for starting studies with Nox RIP Belts, improved connectivity stability and bug fixes. 

New Features

With Nox A1s now supporting Nox SAS configuration, there was a need to have the Noxturnal App support that configuration. Users can now use the app to configure their Nox A1s device with Nox SAS recording types. When the Nox SAS configuration has been selected, the image of the person to the right displays the sensors set up with the Nox SAS cables and accessories.

The sensors tab has also been updated to show the Nox SAS configuration, both the sensors on the body and the sensors attached to the forehead. 

Users can now configure their device to start recording on connecting RIP belts. This is shown in the image below. Note that this feature is only available for Nox A1s recorders. 

Technical debt

To be compatible with the Google Play Store requirements, the app had to be updated so it is compatible with the latest Android SDK (Android 15.0). The app’s minimum required SDK was also updated from Android 6.0 to Android 8.0, meaning that users must have at least an Android device with version 8.0 installed. This was done to minimize the risk of receiving issues caused by outdated hardware. 

The project has also gone through a bit of housekeeping. Outdated third party libraries were removed, deprecated code replaced, and the app is now written in the Kotlin programming language instead of Java. 

Security

PIN handling has been improved. We no longer offer the option to remember the PIN when connecting to a device, meaning that users are always required to enter the PIN when connecting to a locked device. Also, a bug was identified with PINs on C1 devices, where the app could not connect to a PINlocked C1 device. That has been fixed.  

Open-source software licenses are now available from the settings page.

Bug Fixes

Multiple connection issues have been identified and fixed. In some cases, errors coming from the device are now handled more gracefully. Instead of being stuck with an endless loading indicator, the user gets an appropriate error message. 

Hardware Recommendations

All Android devices with version 8.0 and up are required to support all the requirements that the Noxturnal App has, for instance support for Bluetooth and Bluetooth LE. We recommend the following devices:

• Samsung Galaxy Tab S5e 
• Samsung Galaxy Tab S9 
• Samsung Galaxy Tab 8 
• Lenovo tab K10
• Lenovo tab M9 

We intend to expand the list of recommended tablets and therefore highly appreciate any positive user feedback, especially related to the Bluetooth connectivity between the Noxturnal App and Tablet to the Nox A1/Nox A1s. Based on positive user feedback and related internal testing, additional tablets will be included in the recommendation list with time.
