How to Clean and Disinfect Nox A1s & Nox T3s Recorders

Overview

Clean and disinfect Nox A1s and Nox T3s recorders between patients according to the applicable Nox Instructions for Use.

Using the correct cleaning and disinfection agents is important for both infection prevention and the long-term durability of the recorder. Nox Medical's investigation and testing have shown that repeated use of certain agents can reduce the strength of the recorder housing and contribute to cracking and breakage.

Why cleaning agent selection matters

Use only cleaning and disinfection agents that are appropriate for the Nox A1s and Nox T3s recorders.

Repeated exposure to certain chemicals, particularly in combination with normal mechanical stresses, can weaken plastic materials over time and make them more susceptible to cracking or breakage. This is known as environmental stress cracking (ESC).

Following the recommended cleaning and disinfection procedure can help minimize this risk and support the longevity of the recorder.

Do not use

Nox Medical does not recommend the use of:

• PDI Sani-Cloth AF3 disinfection wipes, where quaternary ammonium is the sole disinfectant agent.
• Disinfectants that use hydrogen peroxide as the primary disinfectant material.

What you will need

Before cleaning and disinfecting the recorder, prepare:

• Endozime® AW Plus or an equivalent validated hospital cleaner
• Lint-free cloths
• Gloves
• A soft-bristle nylon brush, such as an electrode brush, toothbrush, or nail brush
• PDI Sani-Cloth Plus Germicidal Disposable Cloth or an equivalent validated disinfectant specified in the Instruction for Use. 

Aniosurf ND Premium is also a validated hospital cleaner recommended for use with the Nox Sleep Systems.

How to clean and disinfect the recorder

Follow the procedure demonstrated in the video and described in the applicable Instructions for Use:

1. Prepare the materials and cleaning solution.
2. Clean the recorder and remove any visible soil or contaminants.
3. Dry and inspect the recorder after cleaning.
4. Disinfect all recorder surfaces using an appropriate validated disinfectant.
5. Allow the recorder to dry completely.
6. Inspect the recorder before reuse for signs of wear, discoloration, corrosion, or cracking.

These steps provide a brief overview of the cleaning and disinfection procedure and do not replace the complete validated procedure in the applicable Nox A1s or Nox T3s Instructions for Use. Before cleaning and disinfecting the recorder, read and follow the applicable Instructions for Use.

Important precautions

• Do not spray or pour liquids directly onto the recorder.
• Do not allow liquid to enter any openings.
• Do not allow the cleaning solution to come into contact with cable or electrode connectors.
• If using an equivalent validated disinfectant, make sure it is suitable for the recorder materials.
• Always follow the disinfectant manufacturer's instructions, including the required contact time.
• Inspect the recorder after cleaning and disinfection and before reuse.
