Overview
When Nox Medical releases a new version of Noxturnal, it may also include updated firmware for Nox A1s and Nox T3s devices. The recommended way to install firmware updates is through Noxturnal, which automatically prompts you to update a connected device when newer firmware is available.
Use this procedure to manually install the latest firmware without upgrading to the latest version of Noxturnal.
Important: Nox T3s and Nox A1s devices use different firmware packages. Always verify that you have downloaded the correct package for your device before proceeding.
Verify Firmware Package Contents
After extracting the firmware package, verify that the firmware folder contains the following files:
FWARMX.binFWARMX.datmanifest.json
Do not rename, modify, or remove any of these files.
Procedure
1. Download and Extract the Firmware Package
- Download the correct firmware package for your device.
- If the package is provided as a ZIP file, extract it to a known location on your computer.
- Verify that the extracted firmware folder contains the required files listed above.
2. Connect the Device
- Connect the device to your computer using a USB cable.
- Wait for the device drives to appear in File Explorer.
3. Identify the Data Drive
The device appears as two removable drives:
| Drive | Contains | Use for this procedure? |
|---|---|---|
| Data Drive | Device.ini, Setup.ini, log, etc | ✅ Yes |
| Command Drive | Device.ini only | ❌ No |
Open the Data Drive before proceeding.
Important: Do not copy the firmware folder to the Command Drive.
4. Copy the Firmware Folder
Copy the entire firmware folder, (or drag and drop) to the root directory of the Data Drive.
Important: Copy the folder itself, not just the files it contains.
5. Eject and Reconnect the Device
- Safely eject the device using your operating system's removal process.
- Wait a few seconds.
- Reconnect the device to the computer.
The firmware upgrade starts automatically when the device reconnects.
6. Monitor the Upgrade
- The device screen displays Upgrading while the firmware is being installed.
- Wait for the upgrade to complete before disconnecting the device or removing power.
Warning: Do not disconnect the device during the upgrade. Interrupting the process may result in an incomplete firmware installation and require device recovery.
Verify the Firmware Version
After the upgrade completes, verify the installed firmware version using one of the following methods.
Option A - Device Screen
Check the firmware version displayed at the bottom of the device screen when powered on.
Option B - Device.ini file
- Open the Data Drive.
- Open device.ini
- Verify the firmware version listed in the file.
