Introduction
This guide is intended as a step-by-step upgrade instruction for users upgrading from Noxturnal 5.X to Noxturnal US 6.x. If you are upgrading from an older version of Noxturnal (3.x or 4.x) it is recommended to do a clean install from scratch since so many changes have been done in Noxturnal that will not translate over successfully.
Follow the steps below for a successful upgrade.
Step 1 – Backing up old settings to be imported into a newer version.
Exporting Settings
Open the older version of Noxturnal and go to Tools 🡪 Import/Export Settings…
Select any customized information that you would like to take over to the new Noxturnal.
Do not use the Select All option. If not sure consider the following:
- Custom Analysis
- Custom Device Profiles & Recording Types
- All application settings (Powerline filters and units)
- Workspace Layouts & Signal Sheets
- Report Parts (Interpretation Notes)
Do not export from this window
- Events
- Reports (see information on how to export & import reports below)
Export and save the export.ndb file to a known location for access later in the upgrade procedure.
Export Reports
Noxturnal US 6.x has an upgraded look on reports so consider to re-build the report for the user in Noxturnal US 6.x instead.
If the user wants to export reports, open Reports 🡪 Manage Reports… and navigate to either User Reports or Default Reports to find your custom reports to upgrade.
Copy the custom Word report to a known location for later access during the upgrade process. Note, it is not possible to export and import any legacy reports.
Now you have completed backing up the custom information you would like to access in the upgraded Noxturnal.
Step 2 – Uninstall and install Noxturnal
To prevent any problems later it is recommended to uninstall the older version of Noxturnal from the computer. Consider if this is an option for the user. It is possible to open all older Nox T3 studies in Noxturnal US 6.x but it might become a problem to open up older reports and interpretation notes if they have not been exported to Word or PDF files.
- Uninstall Noxturnal
- Clean up all Noxturnal related content on install and settings location %Programfiles%, %LocalAppData%, %ProgramData%
- Install Noxturnal US 6.x
Step 3 – Import the settings exported in Step 1
Import Settings
If the user is sharing settings via Centralized Settings make sure that the imported backup settings are done in Admin Mode. If not the import can be done on regular mode.
Open Noxturnal US 6.x and navigate to Tools 🡪 Import/Export Settings…
Select Import on the top pane and Navigate to the .ndb file exported in step 1
Select the settings of interest and import into Noxturnal US 6.x
Import Report
Open Reports 🡪 Manage Reports… and copy the report from step 1 to either the User Reports or Default Reports folder location depending if the user using centralized settings or not.
Centralized Settings
Settings can be moved to a shared location on a server to be access by other computers after the import is completed.
Licenses
It is not possible to export license from the older version of Noxturnal so any license needs to be updated manually with new licenses.
Information on how to update licenses can be found here.
Codes can be accessed via Product Specialists and Iceland support team.
